| This is after he literally RAN after the ice cream truck while we were in NYC this summer. Hilarious. And perfect :) |
I don’t really have much more to say than the title itself entails, but before I do say more, I’d like to say this first…
I’ve been in South Africa for almost 5 weeks now, and today I decided to implement a practice I’d like to call “facetime.” Now, this is not the type of facetime that most of us 21st century nerds are familiar with (the type that goes from iphone to iphone). This is a vertical facetime, between God and me. I’ve noticed that, even though I spend time most mornings with the Lord…that is just not enough. As I stated in my last blog, we are so “prone to wander” and I need constant refocusing (especially in an environment with so many people and so many things to process).
I’d been asking the Lord for a while what it is he wanted me to do, and then, yesterday, I opened up one of my devotionals called Our Daily Bread (that my dad had given me) and the theme verse there was from Daniel 6:10. It reads,
“He knelt down on his knees three times that day, and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as was his custom since early days.”
I realized right then and there what I needed to do—get on my knees!
Nations don’t get changed by talking. Neither do relationships, or financial difficulties, or physical ailments, or little worries, stresses, or anxieties. All of these things are small in the sight of our God. He is able to make a way out in any and every situation we see as impossible—no matter how big or how small, but it all starts with PRAYER. So what are you waiting for?? GET ON YOUR KNEES!!!
I can now proceed to tell you why I have the best dad in the world. He is the one who taught me this. I call this spiritual practice of which I’ve just been speaking, “facetime” because that is what my daddy calls it, and he was talking about it way before Apple. My dad loves the Lord and the Word more than anything else in the world. After that he loves my mom and me. What more could you ask for in a man? Not much…but as if that weren’t enough, he is also one of the most talented musicians I have ever heard (and I’ve heard a lot). He provides for his family, he writes some of the most incredibly anointed songs you will ever listen to, he is funny, smart, a good dancer, a great conversationalist, a weirdo, a serious thinker, a lover of show tunes, politics, food/anything sweet, and that is just the start of it. I haven’t even scratched the surface with this measly little list.
There is no one like him in all the earth, and during my facetime today, thinking about my earthly father gave me an incredible picture of my Heavenly Father and his love for me. I am so so blessed and overwhelmed by the fact that God gave me Marty Goetz as a father, and if that doesn’t show the Lord’s love for me, I’m not sure what does…
I Love you Dad.
Miss you lots and lots.
Misha

ReplyDeleteI have no words....
Marvelous!!
Be mightily blessed, Misha.
I agree! Your dad is a blessing to many, and an inspiration with his music and love for God. My dad was similar~ funny, smart, great dancer, loved and provided for his family, and set the standard so high. I'm glad I'll see him in heaven one day as he's passed on. So glad we have a heavenly daddy to be there for us all the time!!!
ReplyDeletethis was perfect. i love my second dad too. he's just the best. i read this out loud to my mom...she cried. of course. you and your dad share a lot of special qualities and that is why i love you both so much. so glad i got to see your face this morning. miss you every day, mish.
ReplyDeleteAs much as we love Marty's music... and we do love it greatly...the most memorable thing about him for me, is that before every service, one can find him on his knees. While singing with him at Harvest and traveling around behind the platform to get into position for a service, there is Marty. He is on his knees, in front of a chair and in front of his God. Not just once, but before every service. Such an example and blessing.
ReplyDeleteMisha, what a blessing you are. You have such a gift for writing and I agree, you dad is all that you said. You are blessed with amazing parents and they are very blessed with you.
ReplyDeleteI would love to be with you enjoying God's creatures. Love you, Carol
i love this post, Misha!
